What we
do.
TMJ/TMD
-- 'TMJ' are the initials for
Temporomandibular joint, which is the 'jaw
joint'. TMD stand for Temporomandibular Dysfunction, or
problems in the TMJ area. If you have a
'clicking jaw' or noisy closure, and you do not have problems,
then you fall into our area. The general rule is 'if it ain't
broke, don't fix it.' If you are concerned, it is best to put
your mind at ease and make an appointment. This can set a base
line, so there is a record if problem occur in the
future. If you are having
problems, such as pain, it can mean many things. It is
good advice to have your regular dentist check and if need be
referred to a dentist who specializes in this
area.
Head and Neck Pain
-- The is an area that can often be affected by accidents
-- sometimes as simple as a fall at home. It can be simple, or
serious. Always check with your physician, then if there is
still a problem it could possibly related to your
teeth/jaw.
Snoring --
Again this can be very serious or just plain annoying to
both you or your spouse. It can be a sign of sleep apnea,
which is always serious and should be checked by your physician who
will most likely have you get further studies at a sleep lab.
If it is simple there are many things
that can be done. RFV adjustments (see Home Page and Sight
Map) often help, as does a dental orthotic or
splint
Sleep Apnea -
Always serious. Although we see patients for a
general checkup in this area, we do not treat patients with sleep
apnea unless they are referred from a physician/or after they have
sought advice from their physician. It is wise to get
checked out by a sleep lab. Sleep apnea can lead to many
serious physical problems and even death. Be wise, check first
with your physician because if you come to us first, we will
recommend you be checked out medically before we will consider
taking your case on. If you are
referred to us, there are wonderful dental appliances that have
great success in this area. Like any appliance, it is
necessary to have follow up visits and routine checks, even being
referred back to your physician and sleep lab
tests.
